State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukder yesterday said the government has taken steps to form a separate land commission for resolving land dispute for indigenous people of plain land of the country.
He was addressing a roundtable on 'ILO Convention 169: Indigenous people and Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad' in a city hotel.
International Labour Organization(ILO) and Bangladesh and Research and Development Collective (RDC) jointly organized the roundtable.
Acting Secretary of the Ministry of CHT Affairs Masud Ahmed, Country Director of ILO Bangladesh Panudda Bonpala, Member of CHT Regional Council Goutam Kumar Chakma and General Secretary of Bangladesh Adibasi Forum Sanjib Drong, among others, addressed the meeting with RDC Chairman HKM Arefin in the chair.
Senior Labour Standard Specialist of ILO, Delhi Office, Coen Kompier presented the keynote paper at the roundtable.
About the ratification of ILO Convention 169, Dipankar said it would be possible to ratify the ILO convention at the parliament with united efforts of all parliament members.
He said members of the parliament are sincere for ensuring the rights of indigenous people.
The state minister said a decision has been taken by cabinet for determining the number of indigenous community and total indigenous population.
