Aizawl, Feb 23 : Leaders of the Hmar community in Mizoram formed peace committee to broker peace between Mizoram government and Manipur-based Hmar People’s Convention-Democrats (HPC-D), a press statement issued by the Sinlung Hills Development Council (SHDC) members said here today.
The press statement said the decision to broker peace between Mizoram government and Hmar outfit was made at the meeting of village council members within SHDC area held at Mizoram-Manipur border Sakawrdai village on Thursday.
The peace committee is chaired by Laldinliana, village council president of Sakawrdai and other are – VL Rema, VCP of Zohmun village as vice-chairman, Lalrinsanga Ralte member of SHDC as Treasurer and included nine members. The HPC-D, formed in 1997 by breakaway group of HPC and led by Lalhmingthanga Sanate were indulging in a plethora of violent activities from across Manipur border since its formation including abduction for ransom, murder of five State police personnel and wanton intimidation of voters during 2003 assembly polls.
