Aizawl, 29 Jan 2018: Mizoram police arrested Lokhi Ranjan, a Bangladeshi national, for illegally crossing the international border and camping at a village in south Mizoram's Lunglei district.
Lunglei superintendent of police J. Lalhafamkima told reporters on Sunday that Ranjan, who was camping at New Khojoysuri village, was arrested on Thursday after being identified as a foreigner.
He said an FIR was lodged against Ranjan on December 18 at Tlabung police station near the Mizo-Bangla border for illegally residing in the village. "Upon verifying that Ranjan was a Bangladeshi national, the sub-divisional police officer filed a criminal complaint against him with the chief judicial magistrate of Lunglei district court and a case was registered on January 22 under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946," he added.
