NE India: Indigenous Women's organisation hold General Assembly meeting

29th March 2010, Guwahati: The indigenous women activists working in various women’s organization in North East region came together under the banner of Indigenous Women’s Forum for North East India (IWFNEI) and had a two-day General Assembly from 28-29th March 2010, in Guwhati, Assam.

Deliberating upon mechanism on the use of National and International Human Rights procedures to address violence against women, the participants also presented the women rights issues in their respective communities and State. The participants also shared about the common problem they face in their lives and deliberated on a strategy of overcoming these problems and increasing women’s participation in all spheres of life. They resolved to work towards a meaningful intervention on the issue of violence against women.

In the General Assembly the new convener, co-convener and States convener and co-convener were nominated. Khesheli Chishi, former Naga Mother Association President from Nagaland and Seema Ronghangpi, Spokesperson of Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong from Karbi Anglong, Assam are the new convener and co-convener.
