New Delhi, July 9 : India and Bangladesh were today understood to have discussed the issue of the Tipaimukh power project in Manipur and New Delhi assured Dhaka that nothing would be done which would harm the latter's interests.
The issue was raised by visiting Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni during her over hour-long meeting with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna here in the backdrop of concerns voiced in Bangladesh over possible impact of the project, which is proposed to come up on availability of water of common Barak river to the lower riparian country.
Krishna is understood to have told Moni that India would not doing anything or take any decision which would harm Bangladesh's interests.
After the meeting with Krishna, Moni held half-an-hour meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
India is understood to have agreed to give technical expertise for dredging of major rivers in Bangladesh whose silting had led to recurring flooding in that country, sources said adding New Delhi's response was to a request from Dhaka in this area.
